Calcutta News (2008) is a Malayalam movie, directed by Blessy. The film stars Dileep, Meera Jasmine, Indrajith and Vimala Raman. The music is by Debjyothi Misra . The movie deals with India's ugly underbelly of trafficking in women and how a middle class girl from Kerala gets caught in it.

Ajit Thomas (Dileep) is an acclaimed investigative television anchor and producer with a leading channel 'Calcutta News', and is the son of a former footballer who grew up in Kolkata. His team at the channel includes news assistant Smita (Vimala Raman), and anchors Aruna (Manasa) and Sheela (Brinda). Ajit is a lovable guy who lives in a flat with his mom and sister and is active member of the Malayalee Samajam led by a comical president (Innocent) and his wife ( Bindu Panickkar) One day Ajit bumps into a newly married Malayalee couple while on work in a tram, but the guy is hostile when he tries to introduce himself as a Mallu! However, while editing the news, he is shocked to find that an unidentified body found near Kalighat resembles the rude guy he met in the tram.

Ajit's investigative nature comes into the fore as he goes about finding the mystery behind the brutal murder of the guy. The guy was Hari (Indrajith), who had married an orphan Krishnapriya (Meera Jasmine) from Pattambi and brought her to Kolkata, before his brutal murder. Krishnapriya is unaware of her husband's job or what he does for a living and is shattered to know about his death. However hope floats into her life after Ajit sort of becomes her protector and also gets attracted to her for her innocence and their mutual love for music.

Meanwhile Ajit finds that there is something rotten and discovers that Hari was one of the henchman in a sex racket that traps innocent girls and sells them to a one-arm bearded guy (Kathal Krishnamoorthy) who operates from Sonagachi, the largest red-light area in eastern India! Ajit along with his friends try to unravel the sex racket using their television channel, which leads to the bearded guy kidnapping Krishnapriya and taking her to his den in Songachi! Can Ajit in hot pursuit get through the maze of nightmarish and confusing alleys and by-lanes of Songachi to reach his lady love?

The recent row in the Malluwood film cycles is all about the non availability of space for small films in Malayalam these days. Films should star either any of the superstars to get a decent run at the box office. It is about a boy (Ajmal Ameer debuting as Renjith) and girl (Vimala Raman as Mariya) who fall in love and as usual, face parental opposition. And even in these liberal times, where people are career-minded and straightforward, the film seems to suffer from regressive thinking.

Money is a headache, and money is the cure. Money and Women. They're two of the strongest things in the world. The things you do for a woman you wouldn't do for anything else. Same is the case with money. Debutante director Swathy Bhasker 's movie ‘Currency’ deal with a similar theme about how money turns out to be human happiness in the abstract and how the man who is no longer capable of enjoying such happiness in the concrete, sets his whole heart on money.
  
A movie told in a grayish tone, the movie have the protagonist in Keshu, played by Jayasuriya. A little dumb youth, who had quit his studies earlier, he roams around without any real aim in life. A man of mystery, he is the only son of his mother and makes a living by running a photostat store. An introvert who keeps to avoid friends, he shares a special relation with Danny D'souza Sayip - an cunning Anglo Indian, from whom he occasionally borrows money. His other person of interest is rose, a north Indian girl for whom Keshu will do anything.

One day while making a repayment, he creates a Photostat of a currency and give it to Danny, who immediately realises the special calibre of Keshu in making fake currencies. And within days Keshu is forced to become an associate to Danny’s ugly business deals, by supporting him with meticulously made Photostat money.

Prithviraj and Indrajith come together for the first time in Viji Thampi's 'Nammal Thammil'. Geethu Mohandas is the heroine.
'Nammal Thammil' is set in the college campus. Suhasini and Revathy come back to Malayalam with 'Nammal Thammil'.
Ramachandran Nair is in Civil Service and he got a transfer to Kerala from Delhi. He is got a son Vicky(Prithviraj).
They moved to Kerala and Vicky joined the nearby college. He meets Anu (Geethu Mohandas) in the college. Vicky and Anu knew each other earlier but they were never close. Slowly they get to know each other and fall in love.
Things have changed when Johny (Indrajith), joined the college. Johny liked Anu on first sight itself. When he realized Anu is already in love with Vicky, he hated Vicky and started competing with him for everything.
The rest of the story is about the campus fights and misunderstandings.
'Nammal Thammil' also features Balchandra Menon, Siddique, Jagathy Sreekumar, Revathy and Suhasini in supporting cast.

Chemmeen Malayalam Movie

The Malayalam film version Chemmeen was directed by Ramu Kariat and released in 1965. It won the Indian President's Gold Medal for the Best Film of 1965. Sheela, Madhu, Kottarakkara Sreedharan Nair and Sathyan played the lead characters in the film.

The screenplay was written by S. L. Puram Sadanandan, with cinematography by Marcus Bartley, and editing by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and K.D. George. Songs were set to music by Salil Chowdhury, with lyrics by Vayalar, and featuring voices of Manna Dey, K. J. Yesudas and P. Leela.
